UNICEF Deployment
🇳🇵 BEMPU in Nepal
Strengthening Newborn Care in Lumbini Province with UNICEF & Laerdal
Reaching Nepal's Most Vulnerable Newborns
BEMPU TempWatch was purchased by UNICEF Nepal and implemented by Laerdal Global Health in partnership with the Simulation Society of Nepal, under the leadership of Nepal's Family Welfare Division. The program launched formally on October 21, 2024 in Lumbini province — one of Nepal's two provinces with the highest maternal and newborn mortality rates.
TempWatch is one of several innovations deployed alongside simulation-based training (Safer Births Bundle of Care), non-pneumatic anti-shock garments (NASG), and Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR). A needs assessment of facilities was conducted to tailor the program design.
Program: Strengthening Competency and Quality Improvement
The program — "Strengthening Competency and Quality Improvement in Maternal and Newborn Care" — takes a systems-level approach, combining hands-on tools like TempWatch with clinical training and quality improvement frameworks to durably improve newborn outcomes.
