🇿🇼 BEMPU in Zimbabwe
Government & UNICEF Partnership to Increase Newborn Survival
Tackling Neonatal Mortality in Zimbabwe
The Government of Zimbabwe, in partnership with UNICEF, implemented the BEMPU TempWatch to increase newborn survival. The program was funded by the German Committee for UNICEF and the Health Development Fund, targeting premature and low birth weight newborns — the most vulnerable group for neonatal hypothermia.
Premature birth and low birth weight are significant contributors to neonatal mortality in Zimbabwe. TempWatch addresses one of the leading preventable causes of death: undetected hypothermia in the critical hours and days after birth.
Government-Led Implementation
This deployment was coordinated at national level, with Zimbabwe's Ministry of Health and Child Care playing a central role in training and rollout — ensuring TempWatch is integrated into standard newborn care protocols.
