Overview

Enabel, the Belgian development agency, distributed TempWatch bracelets to health centers in the Abomey-Calavi–Sô-Ava health zone in Benin as part of the P@SRIS health program, to monitor hypothermia in low-birth-weight newborns.

In 2021, the health zone recorded 5,995 live births, including 265 low-birth-weight babies — 210 of whom received a TempWatch bracelet for hypothermia monitoring, supported by 738 home visits from health workers. Neonatal mortality among low-birth-weight infants fell 68% — from 81 deaths in the first half of 2020 to 26 in the first half of 2021.
