Overview

BEMPU is supporting Texas Children's Global Health and Baylor Foundation Malawi's neonatology program at Area 25 Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi, where an Immediate Kangaroo Mother Care (iKMC) study is underway, funded by the Laerdal Foundation's Saving Lives at Birth initiative.

iKMC prioritizes zero separation between newborns and their primary caregivers through continuous skin-to-skin contact from birth. TempWatch bracelets are given to babies during their hospital stay to identify and alert for hypothermia, helping mothers understand the direct, visible benefit of consistent Kangaroo Mother Care in keeping their babies warm.
