Overview

BEMPU has partnered with ANSH — an NGO on a mission to save newborn lives through Kangaroo Mother Care — along with its implementing partners Prayatna Sansthan, Jatan Sansthan, Action Against Hunger, and Development Consortium, to support 15 government health centers across Rajasthan with TempWatch and KangaSling.

Given the volume of newborns using TempWatch at home after discharge, many serious complications have been identified early — giving parents and health workers a critical window to intervene before a situation becomes life-threatening.

Project Activities

  • Supplying TempWatch and KangaSling to SNCUs and postnatal wards across 15 government facilities in Rajasthan, including Dholpur, Dausa, and Tonk
  • Training nurses and community health workers on hypothermia recognition and Kangaroo Mother Care positioning
  • Supporting fathers and mothers in sustained, hands-free KMC using KangaSling
  • Field monitoring visits, including a site visit to Dholpur district hospital led by BEMPU's founder

Beneficiary Story

A nurse recalls a baby sent home from the hospital wearing a TempWatch. One day, the bracelet began beeping continuously — the baby would not warm up, even with the parents doing kangaroo care. Worried, the parents called the nurse, who asked them to bring the baby back to the hospital. The baby had developed serious complications and was readmitted, but was successfully treated and saved. The TempWatch had served as an early warning system, catching a life-threatening complication from home before it was too late.
